Medicare Part C

Medicare Advantage

All-in-one coverage that goes beyond Original Medicare.

Medicare Advantage is a private health insurance alternative to Original Medicare that provides all of Medicare's Parts A & B benefits. Most plans also include the Part D prescription drug benefit - all in one convenient plan.

Types of Medicare Advantage Plans

There are several different types of Medicare Advantage plans to fit your lifestyle and healthcare needs.

HMO — Health Maintenance Organization

Most Common

HMO plans require you to use a network of doctors and hospitals. You'll typically choose a primary care physician (PCP) who coordinates your care and provides referrals to specialists. HMOs generally have lower premiums and out-of-pocket costs in exchange for this network requirement.

PPO — Preferred Provider Organization

Most Flexible

PPO plans give you the flexibility to see any doctor or specialist, inside or outside the plan's network, without a referral. Staying in-network costs less, but you're never locked in. A good choice if you travel frequently or want more provider freedom.

PFFS — Private Fee-For-Service

PFFS plans determine how much they'll pay providers and how much you'll pay when you receive care. You can generally see any Medicare-approved provider who agrees to the plan's payment terms - no network required in many cases.

SNP — Special Needs Plans

Specialized Care

SNPs are tailored for people with specific diseases or characteristics, such as those who are dual-eligible for Medicare and Medicaid, live in an institution, or have a chronic condition like diabetes, heart disease, or ESRD. These plans coordinate benefits and care specifically around your condition.
